Cairo tribute concert to mark 50 years since Abdel Halim Hafez
The Nightingale’s best-known songs are set to return to the stage half a century after his death.

Cairo is to host a tribute concert to Abdel Halim Hafez, bringing the singer’s greatest hits back to the big stage 50 years after his death. The concert has been announced for 28 May 2027; full details of the venue and performers had not been published at the time of writing.

Known across the Arab world as al-Andaleeb, the Nightingale, Abdel Halim died in London on 30 March 1977. His songs, from romantic ballads to the patriotic anthems of the 1950s and 1960s, remain among the most performed in Egyptian music, and the Cairo Opera House has regularly staged evenings in his memory.
