Inside the Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum
A palace built for art, home to one of Egypt’s most remarkable collections.

The Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum is home to one of Egypt’s most remarkable art collections, housed in a historic palace on the Nile in Giza.

Khalil, a politician and collector, and his French wife Emilienne assembled works by European masters including Monet, Renoir, Gauguin and Rodin. The couple left the palace and its collection to the state, and it opened as a museum in 1962.
A journey through art
Every room combines art, history and architecture, and the building itself, with its period interiors, is as much a part of the visit as the paintings.
Have you visited, or is it still on your Cairo list?
