Goodbye summer: autumn arrives in Cairo

Autumn officially begins today, Wednesday 23 September, the date of the autumn equinox, when day and night are of almost equal length.

For Cairo, it is a welcome change after a long, hot summer. The coming weeks bring cooler evenings, softer light and the start of the season when the city is at its best outdoors, whether on the Corniche, in its parks or on a felucca on the Nile.
