Why Al Ahly? The story of Africa’s club of the century
In 1907, a young lawyer named Omar Lotfy wanted a place where Egypt’s youth could gather.

In 1907, a young man named Omar Lotfy had an idea: a club where Egypt’s young people could gather, at a time when the country was under British occupation and most sports clubs were closed to Egyptians.
Al Ahly, the National Club, was founded that year and became a symbol of Egyptian identity as much as a sports club.
More than a century later, it is the most successful club in African football. In 2000, the Confederation of African Football named it Africa’s club of the century.
