Restorers care for Ramesses II at the Grand Egyptian Museum
Inside the museum, the conservation team works with precision to keep the king’s colossal statue as it has stood for millennia.

Time leaves its mark, and care preserves greatness. Inside the Grand Egyptian Museum, the restoration team looks after the colossal statue of King Ramesses II with meticulous attention.

The granite statue, more than 3,000 years old and about 11 metres tall, stood for decades in the square outside Cairo’s main railway station before it was moved to Giza in 2006. Today it greets visitors in the museum’s grand atrium.
