A walk through Cairo University
Domes, arches, a clock tower and golden hours: a photographer’s portrait of the campus that has shaped generations of Egyptians.

Domes, arches, a clock tower, golden hours and the stories in between. Photographer Omier Nabil spent time on the campus of Cairo University, and this is what he saw.

Founded in 1908 as the Egyptian University, it is the country’s oldest modern university, and its domed main hall in Giza is one of Cairo’s best-known landmarks.
Generations of Egyptian politicians, writers, scientists and artists passed through its gates, and for many Cairenes the campus is tied to some of their most vivid memories. Which spot brings back memories for you?
