Postcard: from Saqqara to Abu Simbel
One land, countless stories, from the pyramids of Saqqara to the temples of the south.

A journey along Egypt’s monuments covers thousands of years in a few hundred kilometres of river. Saqqara, south of Cairo, is home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, often described as the oldest large-scale stone building in the world.
Further south, Luxor holds the temples of Karnak and the tombs of the Valley of the Kings, and near the Sudanese border stand the rock-cut temples of Abu Simbel, built for Ramesses II and moved to higher ground in the 1960s to save them from the waters of Lake Nasser.
