Meet the cat who guards Dendera Temple
Photographer Brad Flowers found a cat who runs the ancient temple in Qena as if it were her own home.

While visiting Egypt, photographer Brad Flowers met a cat who runs Dendera Temple in Qena as if it were her own home. She wanders the ancient halls and watches every visitor who walks in, and when she is not on duty she is looking for the next sunny spot to nap in.

Dendera’s Temple of Hathor, mostly built in the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, known for its painted ceilings and astronomical reliefs.
Cats were sacred to the ancient Egyptians, associated with the goddess Bastet, so in a sense she is only continuing a long tradition. Would you go to Dendera just to meet her?
